Little stint still plus a wheatear, at least 3 ringed plover, at least 9 dunlins and sandmartins in the hirundine flock
Liitle stint from the Sailing Club today with dunlin
General opinion is that my very poor (distant) photos show a juvenile Dunlin
One was reported last night on twitter, with 18 dunlin (& also on 10th by different person) - mine may well not have been, but was just flagging up the possibility…
Egrets & herons were apparently the same yesterday as well
Black swan still there late morning and dunlin numbers had increased to about 15. Nothing that looked like a curlew sand, but they were quite distant! About 8 ringed/little ringed plovers, but again some were very distant. Wheatear on west bank and the BN grebe was reported but we couldn’t relocate it.
Now 2 Great egret, plus 2 little & 7 grey heron. Blackwit still present & ruff, also c.10 dunlin, possibly the curlew sandpiper (but not enough magnification to confirm), 2 R plover & 1 LRP along back edge & 3 common sand
Pair of black swans were last mentioned on here 19th October last year
The Black-necked Grebe still present this morning from Cheddar Tower. Waders: LRP, 2RP, 4 Ruff, Blackwit, 4 Dunlin, 3 Com Sand. Also, 9 Pintail, single Black and Common Tern….and a Black Swan!
A juvenile Black-necked Grebe at the reservoir this morning. Always distant on the outer edge of the large Coot flock.
Great egret & 5 herons still here yesterday evening, but not the littles, whilst today (after sailing) they are all missing, but the 2 littles are here. 3 black terns, up from two yesterday & a very confiding wheatear.
Thatcher’s & tribute balloons inflating have just scared most birds off to other side, leaving 3 ruff, 2 snipe & 1 dunlin. 4th ruff on far side of weed spit. Great egret returned at 6.15pm
Cheddar Reservoir late morning: 2 dunlin in the bay plus 2 ruff, 1 great egret, 2 little egrets and 4 grey herons on the weed spit
Hi Mike, yesterday’s Osprey was around at about 10:15 am. At first, I was watching the 9 Common Terns when all of a sudden everything (including the BHG’s, Gadwall, GC Grebes, Egrets, Herons, Coots, Ruff etc.) was flushed. I then looked up and saw an Osprey that looked like it was holding a fish.
I saw no further sign of the Osprey once all the other birds had settled again.

There were 3 juv Black Terns together close to the Cheddar outlet tower just before mid-day.
2 black terns, 3 ruff, 2 dunlin, gw & little egret and a wheatear amongst others on the res today
Someone also reported an osprey here early evening on avonbirding “out of area”
