Purple Heron reported as seen 4 times this morning from Tower Hide. Seen by me and 2 others from Tower Hide at 3.30pm landing in reeds on west side of lake where it gave good views.
Then took off and headed east towards Canada. Not seen again from Tower Hide We left at 6.15pm.
Will post a couple of pictures on Flickr when I get round to it
Purple Heron (juv?) seen 6pm Catcott Lows by Alan Ashman and myself. Large bird pitched halfway back then took off and flew toward the hide. Pitched again this end of Higher Ropes, out of sight, for a couple of mins. Took off again and headed off in the direction of Edington Moor. 5mins later Julian spotted walking back from Tower Hide. Had he been 5 minutes earlier (or walked faster!) it would have almost flown over his head! Such is Life.
The Purple Heron was seen in flight again early evening. We were walking along Higher Ropes Drove when it was picked up flying over the Lows in a SW direction towards Edington Moor but lost to view.
Purple Heron seen at Catcott Fen early afternoon. I was following up on a Facebook Post with a photo of the Heron taken yesterday but no exact site given, but knowing the site well . I thought the tower hide was the likely spot and I was right. . First seen in the vegetation on the edge of the water it then flew out of sight. Also present Great Egret, Little Egret, Bittern , Grey Heron and Kingfisher, then Cattle Egret out among the cattle seen from the carpark hide ,also at least 20 Yellow Wagtail out there too but only seen distantly in flight.
