Don’t think the Slavonian was seen today, but there was a stonechat on cheddar side of sailing club.
Slav is still on axbridge side of sailing club, but currently swimming towards Cheddar. Although it then flew towards axbridge tower, landed in coot flock & then back to where it started!
Slav grebe and rcp still late afternoon and a barn owl from the Strawberry Line
1st winter Slavonian Grebe close in near the Sailing Club this morning
over the last couple of days, either Cycle track or middle Moor Lane, at least one Bullfinch calling and two now and again, several redwing, and in the middle of Cheddar a very loud Mistle thrush
One red crested pochard by the Axbride Tower and a pair of ravens flying overhead.
I’ll let you do the honours Dan. Haven’t been to check if I can still gwt up from Holwell Lane but I fear not which is a pain.
Just one male RC Pochard in evidence today - near Cheddar tower. Common pochard numbers continue to increase. A pair of Mistle thrushes in trees near Axbridge tower and a sizeable group of redwing in trees near south-east corner. On Saturday, there was a flock of long-tailed tits in the Axbridge carpark trees, along with goldcrests and a treecreeper.
The 400m fence from Cheddar tower designed to prevent access up the eroding bank has left a convenient 3 foot gap to enable that to continue!
Is anyone planning a Cheddar Reservoir 2021 thread? If not, I will start one at the beginning of the year.
A few siskins with about 50 goldfinches in the conifers north of Cheddar tower. Song thrush in song there and a water rail type squeal heard, but not well enough to be sure.
The five red crested pochards are on the east side of Cheddar Reservoir this afternoon but can’t find the great northern diver. Just heard a water rail from the fields on the south side, no idea where that might be.
5 red crested pochards together with the coot flock at sw of the reservoir this afternoon. 3 males and two females. One of the females is much lighter and brighter than the other one.
5 red crested Pochard reported today (I did see a pair & 2 males with 1 female, nearer cheddar tower, but not at same time, so not definitely different birds)
Great northern diver flew in at 3.15 today. Moved close to south shore briefly and then roosted in centre of reservoir. Male goldeneye still.
1sr winter scaup on Saturday morning, but no sign today. But male goldeneye south of Cheddar tower and male goosander in the middle of the reservoir.
Contrary to birdguides the rn grebe is on rhe south side this afternoon
