Good to see 14 Goosanders this afternoon (7f., 7m.), 1m Gadwall, 3 Shoveler (all f. or sub-adult m.), with 20+ Tufted Duck (more m. than f.), and 3 Cormorants. No Teal or Great Crested Grebes, and numerous Mallard, as they stock and shoot the River Frome nearby. Then ~3.15pm, a wonderful whistling sound, and 24 Wigeon dropped in to the lake. 4 or 5 herons on the lake edge, and 1 standing on a nest on the nesting tree (already?).
I would encourage more people to visit and post sightings for this excellent East Somerset site. Though muddy, the fence has been ‘doctored’, so the wettest bits can be diverted round and viewpoints are accessible (e.g. south end of the dam, for optimum view of the top of the lake). And there have been some excellent sightings there over the years.
