Possible 13/definitely 12 species of wader yesterday. snipe, black tailed godwit, common, green and curlew sandpipers, ruff, dunlin, sanderling, little stint, greenshank, redshank, ringed plover. I thought I saw a spotted redshank when i arrived, but could not relocate it once my ‘eye’ was in. Possibly 100+ waders, thousands of surface ducks and many, many egrets/herons, including 7 cattle egrets.
Also common sandpiper, whilst Dunlin out on the “island” (so 10 species wader). Little ringed probably still there as always difficult to pick out, but definitely not the avocets, didn’t properly check for the BN grebe due to mizzle (weather was much nicer at Burnham!)
Intermittent drizzle this morning at Cheddar but I still managed to see.
Black Swan, Curlew Sandpiper, Sanderling, Ruff, Greenshank, Redshank, Snipe, Turnstone and Ringed Plover all close to the Cheddar Tower.
Water levels are low but there is extensive foam/scum on the water edge which restricts the feeding areas. Plenty of gulls and ducks but no Terns seen today. Steady passage of Swallows.

4 black and 9 common terns

37 cattle egrets
From the Cheddar side late afternoon

One Osprey hunting unsuccessfully at 10.00 am this morning before heading off towards the south. Also a small flock of Ringed Plovers.
A wheatear on the ‘beach’ near the Axbridge entrance this morning.
Four common terns in the centre of the reservoir this morning. GBB gull and black swan still. Teal and gadwall numbers building. Some shoveler as well.
Black-tailed godwit on the spit late morning. 3 adult ringed plovers at the south end. Also 3 little egrets, 4 mute and one black swan, a GBB gull and 111 Canada geese.
Up to 100 coots now with about 40 gadwall. Also a black swan has returned.
Water level falling fairly quickly. Spit beginning to appear near the sailing club. Adult little grebe near Axbridge entrance this morning - my first here for about 3 years. Also shoveler, young gc grebes and a pair of tufties. So the first sign of autumn movement.
After the excitement of the spotted sandpiper, yesterday returned to a more expected single dunlin, although a grey heron also drifted through. Wildfowl up to 120/130 mallard and 3 mute swans, whilst coot remained around 20 and Canada geese at 17. Pied wagtails, swallows and linnet all had youngsters feeding around the edge.
Adult dunlin on the west shore this morning. First wader of the autumn! Water level has dropped significantly but still some way to go until the spit emerges near the sailing club.
Four red kites circled high above the reservoir late morning before drifting off west.
A few swifts and house martins came through ahead of the rain late morning, but the only other thing of interest was a singing reed bunting on the East side.
