At WWT Steart Marshes this morning a drake Green-winged teal was feeding with 75 Teal in the permanent shallow pool to the West of the Parrett banks immediately before reaching the Breach when approaching from the South, before flying towards the middle of the marsh. This pool is very close to the path and duck are usually disturbed off here by the first walkers to reach there each day, so looking for the bird here any time other than first thing in the morning is unlikely to be successful. The 1500 Teal on site are very mobile and usually split into flocks of c100-200. The best spots to view feeding or roosting flocks being the hides at Quantock Viewpoint overlooking Otterhampton Marshes, the viewing screen North-east along the path from Polden Hide, and looking South from the path near Steart Gate car park.
