Stunning morning at Westhay Moor with seasonal surroundings as they should be. The visit started with a wonderful deep orange sunrise slowly lifting over the Tor with frozen puddles under-foot and clear skies a pleasant change to the run of grey and mild conditions seen during December.

Nothing particularly unusual to report on the bird front but it was still a pleasure to be out and find:

GW Egret 1
Goosander 2 fem, 2 male
Cetti’s 5
Water rail 6
Teal 150+
Meadow Pipit, very vocal flock of 15
Kingfisher 1
and Snipe among the usual fare

All the best

Simon
