Two, perhaps three, singing males still present as per post on 28 May.  Not passing through!

A Quail flushed from a grassy path on Black Down (Mendip) at 7a.m. today, 200m south of Beacon Batch. It flew 40m and dropped down into deep cover.

Tealham bird often quiet for 20 mins to half hour

There was one singing at around 0800 today at the same site.  Perhaps in better habitat than where I first heard them last week.

One or two reported singing on BirdGuides recently on Tealham Moor in the area NE of the junction of Jacks Drove (tarmac rd) and Burnt Drove (gated track) which is just north of the jct where Jacks Drove comes off the main tarmac road (Totney Drove) across Tealham Moor. Last posted heard was y’day morning (04-June), I tried that evening 8.00 to 9.00pm and again this morning (05-June) 11.00am to mid-day, but not heard.

Between 2 and 5 singing males on a south Somerset site this morning.  Impossible to be certain about numbers as they kept moving about. I suspect they are passing through as at least one was singing from a field of spring barely where the plants were barely 100mm high at best.
