A firecrest along the track from Station Road to the hide at 0800 hrs this morning, with mixed tit flock, chiffchaffs, goldcrest. On the lake, first wigeon of the autumn (10), with similar numbers of gadwall and tufted. The usual kingfisher and a less than usual sparrowhawk.
Cuckoo calling this morning. A common tern fishing over the lake yesterday. 27 apparently occupied nests in the cormorant colony.
Lake hide this afternoon. Watched a great northern diver for 20 minutes, initially tucked away in the NE corner but gradually made its way right down in front of the hide, dabbling about on the edge of the reeds…. A common tern passed through briefly, heading west. Couple of wigeon but no other duck seen. Water level now on the edge of the small path to hide.
