No sign of the Purple Sandpiper this morning. No sign either of the waders it was associating with, Dunlin and Turnstones. 50 Wigeon in the bay was the only thing of note.

Just double checked, last Purple Sandpiper record at Helwell Bay was February 8th to March 13th 2022. No records last year.

A single Purple Sandpiper was present this morning on the incoming tide at Helwell Bay, Watchet. This used to be a regular wintering site but in recent years records have become much more erratic. In fact there appear to have been no records since the first winter period in 2020. Also present 44 Turnstone, 22 Oystercatchers, 20 Wigeon, 13 Dunlin, 6 Shelduck, 1 Ringed Plover, 1 Curlew.
A local dog walker reported quite a lot of duck recently in the bay including Teal, Tufted Ducks and Pintail. The Pintail were 3 weeks ago which is a good record for the area. He also reported Black-tailed Godwits.
