Signs of autumn today: a flock of LT tits near Axbridge car park with blue, great and coal tits, goldcrest, chiffchaff and treecreeper mixed in. Five swallows battling against the easterly wind, 3 female pintail near the spit with the RCP.. Also a GBB gull there. Water level beginning to rise.
Despite the weather, still no waders or windblown rarities at the reservoir. But a female pintail in with the dabblers at the spit was my 97th species of the year here.
Cattle egret flew over heading east late afternoon. Also male peregrine over and wheatear on south side.
Still two Ringed Plovers (Juv.) on SE side at water’s edge
Two Ringed Plovers on South Side this am at 8.25am.
3 GWE mid afternoon, no sign of other waders.
No sign today of yesterday’s reported 3 black terns, but 2 juv ringed plovers in southeast corner this evening. Also about 15 chiffchaffs in the trees and bushes near the rugby pitches.
No sign of the odd Barnacle Goose hybrid (see link), but 28 Canadas included two with white speckling on head. 9 Gadwall, 7 Mute swans & same number of Tufties, 3 Shoveler, 1 Grey Wagtail, Little Egret, imm Common Gull & the RC Pochard reverting to type & diving for weed, rather than feeding with the mallard.
