Going back in time I’ve had a reliable report of a spoonbill flying through catcott whilst the hoopoe was there (but person concerned doesn’t have a log in for this forum)

The lapwing chicks still out (3rd finally appeared as cows moved in on them!), along with 2 independent mallard ducklings & 4 young coot, plus the male shoveler heading for eclipse.

7 cattle & 1 little egrets joined the cows out front at 12.15pm. 1 kite going S at 12.45 - 6 buzzard & presumably the same kite circling over hide at 1pm

Also plenty of young reed warblers & a blackcap at greylake earlier and the 3 little grebe chicks there are almost full sized now (originally 4)

After a green sandpiper dropped in yesterday, a wood sandpiper was there today - seems autumn migration has begun!

Excellent views of a Barn Owl perched on the bridge over the canal at the north east end of Catcott Lows reserve this morning, at 10.25am. Viewed from the canal path. ST412418.

after morning rain I decided to call in at Catcott Lows and between 10.15 and 11.15 those present were treated to plenty of bird activity. Some Bullfinches flew from the side of the track to the main hide then once settled I noticed 2 Blackwits feeding on the mud. Next to arrive were three Glossy Ibis that stayed for the rest of my visit, soon followed by 2 Dunlin in breeding plumage. Plenty of Lapwings were around keeping watch on a single Marsh Harrier then a Barn Owl appeared to the north of the hide while a second very distant Owl was hunting near the South Drain bridge to the east. At least 2 GWE were present and 3 Cattle Egrets flew from east to west, one carrying food. About 12 Gadwall, a pair of Teal and 5 Shoveler were the ducks present. Pied Wagtails, Stonechat and Skylarks were the only passerines seen from the hide. I then walked down the drove to Catcott South and saw a Bittern fly into the lake in front of the tower hide. Several Warbler species around but my hoped for first Spotted Flycatchers of the year were still not seen. 130 species seen in May, almost all on the levels so tomorrow we start on zero.
