Bit late with this: Kay and I saw this juv Osprey over Ham Wall on Wed morning at 11:00hrs, it hung around for a while and then drifted off west in direction of Noah’s Lake, where this late morning between 11:15 and 12:15 it was perched in one of the tall bare trees in the NW corner of the Lake (near the main track) and then made 4 unsuccessful fishing dives.

At around 11.15 it approached the main track from the north and failed to catch anything when it plunged into the waters of Meare Heath scrape. After a couple more low passes it disappeared in the direction of Ham Wall.
I watched it from Decoy hide for a while before going over to shoot it. A fine unringed juvie, quite a chunky one, so maybe female.

I saw an Osprey from the railway line at 3.20. It flew around quite a wide area before dropping out of sight. Apparently it was seen catching a fish earlier in the afternoon so it might stay for a while.
