This morning a pied flycatcher feeding in the tall trees on the on the sailing club side of Axbridge car park. Also a little grebe at Cheddar Tower.
Yesterday afternoon Great Egret still with 3 little egrets on the spit. Also 2 common sandpipers and 2 wheatears there. Lesser whitethroat in the bushes north of Cheddat tower showing very well. Greenshank heard calling several times as it flew over but not seen!
Also there early morning a drake Aythya hybrid that appeared to be a Ring-necked Duck X Tufted Duck, plus Kingfisher and Snipe.
This morning, several hundred hirundines panicked by a hobby which came in past Cheddar Tower and went west. Great egret and 2 little egrets by the emerging spit near the sailing club. Also there, 30-40 teal, 4 wigeon and 2 female shovelers. First wheatear of the autumn seen flying over the water. Landed north of Cheddar Tower.
This morning a juvenile little ringed plover and moulting adult dunlin north of Cheddar Tower and a common sandpiper near Axbridge car park. Also little egret and grey heron before being flushed by rampaging dog.
At the moment (16.40) 2 LRPs, a common sandpiper and a yellow wagtail just north of Cheddar Tower. Also common tern briefly.
2 Dunlin and 3 Ringed Plover seen together this afternoon.
Very quiet yesterday evening. Canada geese still present, increased numbers of Coots present an indication of the gentle slide towards Autumn/Winter. Sadly no evidence of any waders.
Greylag with the Canadas this evening by Cheddar Tower. Water level still dropping but not as low as this time last year, I think.
80 plus Canada Geese this morning adjacent to the sports field,also several small groups in the fields near the Claypits, 3 busy woodies’ along Middle Moor Lane
4 Common Sands this morning from the Cheddar tower to the boat house and a Heron being mobbed by a large gull
Little egret was at various parts of the reservoir this morning.
Not at the res’, but a single little egret is quite a regular poacher in the stream behind the “S’ supermarket in the village, also regular sightings of grey wagtail on this little area, and out toward the caravan park close to the football club along with a Kingfisher that has a regular daily visit here
Three gadwall near Cheddar Tower yesterday morning and a greylag with 23 Canada geese near Axbridge car park.
