From Steart this morning:
2 Leach’s Storm-petrels (Nick Wall in another hide had two) - believed three in total
2 European Storm-petrels (both seen by me and Nick from same hide)
2 Little Gulls (1 ad breeding plumage seen by us both from separate hides and 1 imm. by Nick only)
50+ Kittiwakes (1 ad 1imm by me; flock of c. 50 by Nick)
1 ad. Med. Gull (Nick only).
Also of interest, up to 10 Meadow Pipits leaving the coast in 1s and 2s and flying north, almost directly into a force 6 gusting 8 gale. The urge to migrate clearly strong. Only 2 turned back.
Seem to have been 2 reports of Leach’s this morning
European.
European or could it have been one of the Leach’s?
On a very windy morning, a single storm petrel got blown along the shore and out across the river towards the Burnham marina. It made a couple of attempts to turn into wind and arrest its progress, but seemed very weak and failed to do so.
Otherwise only kittiwakes - a flock of 4 inc. 2 immatures; a flock of c.30 far out in the Channel; and a flock of 60+ close in in the Bay during a hail squall.
