Much lower tide this morning from 8.30. Plenty of Avocets visible on the Steart side, a large flock towards Pawlett and others spread along the tideline opposite the sewage outfall. Four Ringed Plover were the only waders on the move flying upstream but a flock of Canada Geese were being followed by 2 Brents, also headed upriver. One Wheatear still noted along with a few Swallows. Linnets and Meadow Pipits in high numbers on the sea wall, disturbed by a cruising Sparrowhawk.

From 9-11am today. Very high tide so only the high grass bank was dry to begin with. Many Meadow Pipits and Pied Wagtails along the tideline and a Kingfisher was on the sewage outfall that was at that point well out to sea! Plenty of Swallows still feeding over the fields. A Grey Wagtail, Skylark, Linnet and Wheatear were other passerines seen between the sluice and the Brue. I then went back to the sluice area as the tide fell and the following waders were on view either close to the sluice or on flooded fields towards Pawlett.
Avocet: flock of up to 200 flew upriver but then split up looking for feeding places. One Spotted Redshank and one Common Sandpiper near the sluice.
Pawlett side, large mixed flock of waders including Blackwits, Grey Plover, Knot, Redshank and unidentified smaller waders probably Dunlin.
Huge numbers of Shelduck were visible on the Steart side and a female Marsh Harrier flew along the Steart bank of the river.  Very little rain fell despite a poor forecast.
