I can endorse Jim’s description of the host of birds following a drain digger and a hay turner on Tealham this morning. The Grey Herons were lining up along the ditch and finding plenty of eels as did the odd Buzzard while most of the Cattle Egrets came for a quick look before dispersing among the fields of cattle. There were quite a lot of Little Egrets as well making it a challenge to count exactly how many of each species were present. Also at least 4 Kestrels around.

The Buzzard in the photo had scavenged an Eel from a Heron and then striped it of flesh.

This morning at Tealham moor was a feast day for the herons as they followed the Somerset rhyne clearing contractor, of particular interest was an almost white Buzzard.

A Grey Heron was amusing to watch as it tried to swallow an Eel, not for the Eel I might add but even though it was a forgone conclusion the Eel did not give up without a struggle.
