Just thought I’d point you towards my latest blog post, with details of my recent trip to Somerset for the Swan-fest. A few (not very good!) pics too… http://stevesbirdingblog.blogspot.co.uk/

Had an excellent morning around Burrowbridge today. What a stunning place with so many birds, including ten Whooper and six Bewick’s Swans. There were 5 adult and 3 imm Whoopers right beside Burrow hump car park showing superbly well, with another two adult Whoopers distantly viewable from here with Mute Swans up towards Othery.  The six adult Bewick’s were also viewable from here, but they were much closer from a public footpath that runs west from Pathe.

Couldn’t see any Cranes from Stathe but I didn’t try too hard.

Somerset birders you are so lucky to have areas like this on your doorstep, puts Devon to shame!

Whooper and Bewick swans still present including immature whooper, best seen as per Jeff’s post, large numbers of teal, wigeon, lapwing and canada geese smaller numbers of shoveler and pintail large flock of BH gulls 20+Little egret. Strange bird of prey but decided it was an extremely pale buzzard almost completely white breast maybe leucistic? Did not pick out any Ruff or Golden Plovers but it is a large area and the light was deteriorating all can be seen from Burrow Mump car park but you will need a scope.

At 15:00 hrs this afternoon there were 6 Bewick’s Swans and 5 Whooper Swans (all adults) here on flooded Southlake Moor, best viewed from the minor road in the village of Pathe at approx map ref: ST377304.
Please don’t block this narrow road which is used by large farm vehicles, rather park in the small car park by Pathe Bridge over the main rhyne and walk back to view from the roadside next to a farmyard with a stack of uncovered hay bales.

Also, Rog Musgrove saw 25+ Ruff among the Lapwings, looking from Burrow Mump car park.
