A spring visit to Exmoor :-
Dunkery Beacon via Rex Stile Path: 3 Grasshopper Warblers, 6 Cuckoos, 3 Whinchats, 2 Stonechats (male in conflict with pair of Whinchats), 1 Curlew heard..
East Water; 1 Wood Warbler, 2 Pied Flycatcher.
Chetsford Water: 2 Whinchats, 3 Stonechats, 2 Cuckoos, 2 Grey Wagtails, 1 Redstart, 1 Reed Bunting.
Horner Woods: 11 Pied Flycatchers (9 male: 2 female) pair seen nest building in nest box, 2 Wood Warblers (both near Pool Bridge), 2 Redstarts, 1 Grey Heron.
Nothing of note on Dunkery Beacon - was hoping for something special migrant wise! The heather moorland seems to be diminishing at an alarming rate every time I visit (only about 3 times per year) and birds like Wood Warbler and Whinchats seem to be down in numbers.
It still remains a very special place though!
