My big surprise on Saturday was a pair of Wigeon on the small Blackmoor Pool at Charterhouse Reserve, with the usual Coot (FB photo link):

No Mike, was really checking for a shrike
Did you go looking for the Dartford Warbler? I failed to find it Friday, nor Crossbills at Stock Hill (lots of disturbance going on with the felling) or East Harptree - but I didn’t spend very long at either
Lucky to find a Waxwing today just NE of Middledown Nature Reserve up above Cheddar Gorge in the sun early afternoon. There were masses of thrushes up there too, and vast swathes of berries on the hawthorns. Predominantly Fieldfare but plenty of Redwing too and I could easily have seen a thousand birds.
The Waxwing perched high in a tall bare tree for 5 mins with a couple of thrushes close by but I missed it when it flew. I couldn’t refind it in the next 50 mins. Simon S pointed out a hunting Barn Owl a bit later just up the road and he also saw Peregrine and Golden Plover in the area.
