The 9 appear to have moved from north Cornwall (leaving another 9 there) to east Devon on Sunday (via exminster on last post), & so far none of the recent Somerset sightings overlap (it was still at catcott yesterday, as was a young male hen harrier). No surprise that the frost has forced the ibis off the fields & back to the wetlands
9 Glossy ibis were seen around Exminster yesterday and there are 3 in North Devon so entirely possible that there is more than one around the levels. That said, I have not found the Westhay bird yet this year.
Glossy Ibis currently on an island in front of the west (car park) hide 8.56am. Catcott Lows reserve.
Several people got photos of it arriving. There has been another invasion this winter, with several in Devon at moment & the one at slimbridge…
Hi Pete,
Your observation yesterday was the first report of a bird at Greylake on the bird information services. I have not heard of it before then and with the number of people visiting for the teal I would think it would have been reported were it present. Nice find.
It was still present this morning apparently, with it or another at Ham Wall from VP 1 this afternoon.
I wonder how many we have at the moment? Possibly just one long-staying mobile bird, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there were a couple in the county
Presumably the one from westhay village, as no sign of that around same time (& it was there last week)
A Glossy ibis flew in at Greylake RSPB yesterday (13th Jan) at 13.35. Not sure if this bird has been around before or if it was a new bird for the area?
