Didn’t see ibis today, but there was a great egret on the peat cutting just beyond which flew off towards westhay at sunset, the littles headed south towards shapwick about 15 mins later & the cattles disappeared much earlier (although I don’t know if they were disturbed).

Several flights of starling headed for ham wall & a buzzard flew past around the same time. Also lots of fieldfare & redwing between tealham & mark on way there.

Glossy spent some of its time yesterday visible with one little egret in the back field which the mute swans like.

The glossy ibis was there at about 1.30-2pm, on the opposite (north) side of the road from the little egrets, before flying one field back, out of sight behind the hedge. Cattle egrets were that side too, in the first field with cattle. Later at Ham Wall, several water pipits on Loxtons, but very mobile.

Didn’t see the glossy this afternoon (but it was there yesterday), but 20 littles in the field were joined by 26+ cattles (more seen between wedmore & westhay)

A black necked grebe was photographed at lunchtime on Noah’s lake

Glossy Ibis still present at 3.40 this afternoon in the first field on the right past New House Farm, Westhay. It then flew across to Honeygar lane with several Little Egrets when a large vehicle drove past. Thanks Kevin.

Glossy seen this afternoon in field alongside Westhay to Burtle road with a group of Little Egrets.  Cattle Egrets along there too.

So, sounds like there were 2 birds involved (although I don’t know the relevant timings of each, or if either have been seen since…)

The ibis hasn’t been reported since last Monday, but one has been seen at bleadon more recently

No sign of an Ibis at Catcott Lows this morning in heavy rain but eventually some Cattle Egrets showed up while a Marsh Harrier flushed a lot of Meadow Pipis, Teal, Gadwall and Snipe. One Green Sandpiper paid a brief visit which was the highlight. On my return trip to Westhay, a Kingfisher flew along the South drain seen from the road.

Some photos of it on the ground finally taken at weekend (rather than just in flight), it was still there yesterday.

Having been told it was on the left edge from the main hide, I commented that we needed a marsh harrier fly over, then everybody else left around 5pm. Half an hour later a male obliged & put up the ibis plus about 30 cattle egrets a lot closer than I was expecting, from the channel on the left. They all dropped back into the same area & disappeared amongst the reeds / sedge with the cows, & only a few egrets reappeared occasionally. A great egret also wandered across the back.

Only about 16 cattle egrets were nearer the village, but lots were flying around the back of the reserve & 4 grey heron in field opposite entrance

Although the Glossy Ibis had been seen this morning it didn’t show during a short visit.  However, in the fields between the reserve and Catcott village there was a very mobile and dispersed flock of Cattle Egrets which must have numbered between 80 and 100.  Also seen in the same area were a female Marsh Harrier, a Common Buzzard, a Kestrel and a pair of Stonechats.
