A trip to Exmoor on 3rd may produced the following sightings :-

Dunkery Beacon north side around Rex Stile path and Aller Combe: 3 Cuckoo, 5 Stonechat, 2 Grasshopper Warbler, 1 Tree Pipit, 1 calling Curlew, 1 Northern Wheatear (the only migrant on the summit), 1 Green Woodpecker, 2 Raven - also plenty of Mipits, Skylarks and Willow Warblers & a few Swallows passing through.  No Whinchats were observed although a significant area east of Aller Combe had been burned to encourage heather generation - not sure of the timing though?

East Water: 1 Dipper at nest site, 1 Grey Wagtail, 2 Pied Flycatcher, 1 Redstart.

Chetsford Water, Embercombe & Great Hill: 3 Whinchat (one bird sporting a metal ring on its right leg), 5 Stonechat, 1 Redstart, 1 Grey Wagtail, 2 Cuckoo, 1 Raven, 1 Kestrel & 4 Buzzards.

Wilmersham Common - 1 Northern Wheater feeding on roadside -  seen from car.

Horner Wood - Pool Bridge to Granny’s Ride: 5 Pied Flycatcher, 4 Wood Warbler, 1 Redstart, 3 Grey Wagtail, 1 Cuckoo, 2 Buzzard, also a GS Woodpecker still drumming and calling.

Swallows were back nesting at both Pool and Cloutsham Farms.

Although the sun shone for most of the day it seems that migratory songbirds are getting scarcer and scarcer here every year?!
