A local patch tick for me this morning. I flushed a bittern from one of the droves on West Moor. A very unexpected finding - West Moor has very little in the way of Phragmites reedbed and then only in small patches in the edges of some of the less well-managed rhynes. This might be a cold weather movement (but its hardly cold enough to freeeze) or it may be dispersal of an adult seeking suitable a breeding site.
