6 Whoopers on Noah’s Lake today, still huge number of duck, Wigeon, Gadwall ,Teat, Shoveller, Pintail. Mallard, Tufted and a few Pochard. % Different marsh Harries seen, 1 Male, 1 Fem, 3 Juvs. causing mayhem when flying over.
One juv dropped on a Tufted bound to it, stood on it and held it under water, itself being partially submerged for what appeared to be long enough to drown it. It finally had to let go and with bsome difficulty flew up on to a nearby bush ans to every ones suprise the duck surfaced and swam off slowly albeit only operating with one good leg. Probably won’t survive if picked out again!
One Whooper seen among 52 species recorded from 0800 to 10.00 in Shapwick and Ham Wall. At least 5 different Marsh Harrier, 3 GWE, several Snipe and the usual ducks.
Two Whooper swans back on Noah’s today, difficult to see, as they were as they often have been over the last couple of years, hiding away in the far N.W. corner of the lake!
