Alex, thank you. Would have been nice to have seen something different, but it’s good to have it definitively identified. We did see the Glossy Ibis a few weeks ago, which was amazing.

Sally, this is a Grey Heron. Even before trying to assess detail from a distant grainy shot in poor light, the white ‘shoulder’ patch is an immediate giveaway

Seems likely to be a Purple Heron as 2 people have suggested it, thanks. I’ve now edited a different photo to clean up some of the fuzz. Does this change any opinions? https://flic.kr/ps/3MSkH4

I’m sure that more expert people than I will be able to ID it, but could it be a late Purple Heron?

Think I’ve uploaded to a public site (Flickr) so hopefully this link will work: https://www.flickr.com/photos/183177775@N03/

It’ll be a juvenile grey heron - if you upload them somewhere else you can put a link in here

Walking around the reservoir this morning we spotted a heron, but not a grey I don’t think. Google Lens tells me it’s a Great-billed heron, which I think is highly unlikely. I’ve got some iPhone snaps, but don’t think I can upload them here. Anyone got any ideas how I can identify the bird?
