The Cattle Egret was present at the western end of the Marsh this morning in the horse field along with 8 Little Egrets. Also, an adult Mediterranean Gull with a full hood was at the breach with other gulls.

The water rail was in the same place and so was the cattle egret: in a field with two ponies and two little egrets, just at the western end of the marsh. The linnet flock was still there too.

Another Common Sandpiper today at the Sailing Club bay, Wimbleball Lake at midday. This is the first winter record here since 2020. It’s possible, of course, it’s the same bird I saw at Porlock Marsh on Friday doing the rounds. Also round the lake 8 Goosanders.

A Common Sandpiper at the breach, Porlock Marsh this morning. Last winter record on Exmoor was 2021. Also a Cattle Egret was at the west end of the Marsh associating with a Little Egret. I think this is the first ever record on the Marsh itself though one was at Bossington for one day in 2023. Also of note a squealing Water Rail at the west end, and a flock of around 80 linnets and 45 Greenfinches.
