50+ Cattle Egrets at the far eastern end of the reserve this morning; also at least 12, possibly 20, Yellow Wagtails on cut grass beyond and to the left of the green pumping-shed when viewing from the main car-park hide.

Pleased to know they are cutting some vegetation. Even the cattle have been invisible at times recently! The only wader I have seen on three recent visits to Catcott was a Greenshank on 25th. I have seen Cattle Egrets in a range of sites recently but biggest numbers around Catcott Lows and its border with Canada Farm. Others along the Westhay-Wedmore road, on Tealham and at New House Farm Westhay. The family group of 5 Egyptian Geese are also moving around the Westhay-Burtle area.

Most days there are more than that in the fields near the bridge on opposite side

At least 59 Cattle Egret were with cattle in the field opposite the entrance track this afternoon but all had moved on later. viewing from the hide on the south side there were 2 Marsh Harrier, 3 Buzzard, 1 Kestrel I Hobby, 2 or 4 Great Egret, 1 Little Egret , 1 Grey Heron , most of these were in an area to the north east that was bring topped. Groups of House Martins and Swallows moving through , 1 Yellow Wagtail was seen briefly and the usual few Gadwall and Mallard.
