Possibly the sedges aren’t making much noise as weather’s not that great. Time of day makes a big difference too. A cattle egret was outnumbered by 4 littles this evening & a buzzard sat on the lower rung of a gate surround, with 2 crows on the top, was an interesting juxtaposition!
Hello John. I did a three and three quarter hour walk around Tealham on Saturday (29th) morning and came across 11 singing Sedge Warbler’s (7 seen) a solitary Lapwing, and only 1 Yellow Wagtail (full list on bird track). What did surprise me was the small number of Meadow Pipits I came across.
I guess it’s a case of being in the right pace at the right time.
On Saturday I never saw a single Lapwing and only 1 Sedge Warbler. 7 Yellow Wagtails were a most welcome sight
A worrying lack of lapwing at tealham currently - only 2 seen today, neither on the usual pool. Also not many sedge warblers, but there were 80 non breeding mute swans in a flock that can’t be seen from the road
At least one Yellow Wagtail on Tealham Moor this afternoon, flew from the usual wet field across the road to some hard standing and then back to the field again. Skylarks, Meadow Pipit ,Sedge Warbler , Linnet and Stonechat also seen or heard as well as the usual Herons and Egrets.
