The summer-plumage Black Tern returned and was still present, hawking insects over Canada Farm Lake (Shapwick Heath) at 11:45 hrs. Also a Great White Egret present.
The Black Tern was still present this am up until 09:40 when it took a disliking to a female Marsh Harrier and flew off strongly towards Catcott. 5 Common Cranes also passed over the lake heading in the same direction as the tern.
A single summer plumaged Black Tern was over Canada Farm Lake this evening. as seen from the east end of Higher Ropes Drove from Catcott Lows, so I had the sun behind me. Plenty of hirundines too, mostly Sand Martins.
