The garganey usually disappears up the central channel during the day

No sign of the hoopoe or garganey for us between 10.30 and 5, but a pair of cuckoos flew West over the car park around 11. 4 whimbrels dropped in at 4.20 and stayed for half an hour before flying off West. In between, whitethroat, stonechat, reed bunting, wren, single male pintail, at least a couple of dozen greylag goslings, male marsh harrier, 4 hobbies and a couple of wigeon amongst shovellers, teal, mallards, lapwings, nesting swans and Canadas.  Lots of brimstones, white and a peacock butterflies, whitethroats, chiffchaffs, blackcaps and a garden warbler along the drove to the tower hide, where there was another cuckoo calling and bittern booming, with a few gadwall, mallards, coots, moorhen, reed warblers, cetti’s and little grebes..

Also bittern heard, a second cuckoo & the 6 cranes that seem to have flown from greylake via ham wall (whilst watching the hoopoe, which was present all day). Plus drake garganey & pintail, and a wheatear from main hide in morning

Also, 3 little ring plovers, 2 GWE, little egret, redshank and cuckoo calling.
