Somewhat bereft of birds today (there were a couple of foil surfers). The RC pochard was still escorting a female mallard, now with only 5 ducklings (they look the same as rest though), other families still had 7, 2 & 1. NO diving ducks or coot seen, just GC grebes, cormorants & gulls. House sparrows & pied wagtails on sides.

At least 2 Common Sandpipers still present this afternoon between Sailing Club and Cheddar Tower; drake Red-crested Pochard also loitering close to Axbridge entrance.
A few hirundines over the water, mostly Swallows but the odd House Martin and a single Sand Martin were noted.
Lesser Whitethroat singing at the back of the cemetery.

At least 4 of them are still there this evening, but were chased off the side by a loose dog. I didn’t go any further than scanning both ways from the cheddar tower

I was hoping for black terns, given the number reported up the Severn recently, but there are 6 common sandpiper braving the surf between cheddar tower & sailing club (with pied wagtails & house sparrows), also 2 mallard ducklings, plus the RC pochard by axbridge entrance

Someone reported common sandpipers again yesterday, so that seems most likely, although I have also seen Sanderling at this time of year previously

A few swallows over the reservoir were part of a much larger arrival across the Somerset levels. The male RC pochard is also still present
