I have now reached a decision on Shapwick Heath Wigeon numbers on Monday at 5746. Of that total, 1446 were on the Meare Heath scrape and a few on Decoy and 4300 on Noah’s Lake. They were very dispersed and there could easily have been more hidden behind islands at the back of the lake as viewed from the hide. 54 Pintail was also a very high count. Gadwall were well down though at 28. Were they crowded out by other species?

2 booming bitterns heard while doing the Shapwick WeBS today. Good number of Pintail on Noahs and several Marsh Harriers around. I now have to try to count the Wigeon from a series of photographs so will post the total later.
