Seemed to be more coot & fewer GC grebes today, but didn’t attempt to count around sunset. 16 tufties on E side, with 11 more on W, c.120 Pochard together & at least 4 more scattered around. 2 male & the pale female RC Pochard with the coot, then another male near the axbridge entrance, not far from the Muscovy. Only saw between 10 & 20 mallard, 1 mute swan & a Canada goose. Otherwise a few cormorant & lots of gulls roosting.

On Twitter, a scaup was seen this morning, but not later, once sailing started (but may have still been present, as ducks were moving around)

A short, out and back, walk from the Cheddar car park along part of the eastern rim this lunch time:
16 Tufted Duck just off the Cheddar outflow;  large Coot flock well spread out along eastern side;  around their edge, mainly, were 6 Common Pochard, the odd Great Crested Grebe and the single female Goldeneye;  feeding along the concrete rim there were a few Pied Wagtail and half-a-dozen Linnet.

Muscovy duck was today’s addition. The little grebe & RCPs still with coot flock. 116 common Pochard & 18 tufties herded by the sailing boats. 1 raven over as we drove in.

It was certainly unusually active (& presumably hungry) - gave us the run around whole south side!

General lack of ducks with Pochard & mallard the only ones in any numbers, plus a few tufties, just a male gadwall & pair of teal amongst the coot otherwise. The male RCP was diving for weed & sharing with female.

Single meadow pipit was feeding on east shore, along with few pied wagtail.

Thought I’d begin this post in anticipation of all the great stuff sure to turn up at Cheddar this Winter!?. I’ll begin with a slow burn of male and female red-crested pochard this morning together in the SW corner
