112 Cattle Egrets roosting in trees N. of North Chine Drove, Westhay this morning (16th).
Lots of fieldfare & some redwing especially to west of tealham moor today. Plus the male ring necked duck still at ham wall (didn’t see the female, but the male only appeared for 5 mins during a 2 hour watch)
1,000 Fieldfare / Redwing on Kennard Moor today.
Westhay Moor area produced good numbers of most ducks, unusually high counts of Mallard and Shoveler, a couple of early Pintail, but the big surprise was a Male Mandarin on 20 acre lake. I’ve looked back through the WeBS records going back as far as 1987, when WeBS started, and this species has never been recorded here before !

There were several mixed Tit flocks that included Chiff Chaffs and Goldcrests, and similar Finch flocks, mainly Chaffinches, but some Reed Buntings and Linnets included. There were several large flyover flocks of Fieldfare and Stonechats have moved into winter quarters at several sites at Westhay and elsewhere. The Cattle Egrets were in the usual favoured fields at North Chine Drove, there were another 6 with Cattle at Jacks Drove on Tealham.
Was also lucky enough to see a Large Dog Otter swimming across one of the lakes off Daggs Lane Drove
