At least 6 yellow wags still around SE edge, the grey wagtail, 9+ common sandpiper & RC pochard along SW. A female mallard with 9 small ducklings (although didn’t see last week’s family). Few swallows & sand martins also & kingfisher at Cheddar tower.

12-15 yellow wagtails around the Res today, 2 white wagtails and plenty of pieds, and not wanting to be left out of the mix, a grey wagtail too (on the stream near the boathouse). Swallows, house and sand martins everywhere!! 15-20 swifts too.

Yesterday afternoon (18th) was a wagtail-fest at the Res. The blue-headed reported by Sean looks most likely an Iberian (Spanish) Wagtail (see my pics on Twitter). This was in the company of a female Yellow wagtail all the time I watched it. Also present one white wagtail and 7 or 8 pieds (m’s & f’s). Iberian wag still there today (19th) but no sign of yesterday’s accompanying yellow wag.

7 mallard ducklings with mom managed to swim from sailing club to axbridge tower in time it took me to walk the long way around. 2 or 3 jumpy common sandpiper beyond cheddar tower. Only 2 male & 1 female pied wagtails along edge (the female was light enough to be mistaken for white, but had grey flanks, dark rump & large bib). Most of non-mallards were in SW corner, as few boats out sailing - the RC pochard, 4 male gadwall, only 2 male, 1 female tufted & at least 23 great crested grebe.

Also 3 swallow on wires at edge of village

Male Blue-headed Wagtail in the SW corner early morning. It was flushed frequently and often flew some distance but kept returning to the same spot near the dog bin.

Three male yellow wagtails on west bank with pieds and at least 3 white wagtails (one male). Hundreds of swallows with a small number of sand and house martins. Also singing willow warbler and female reed bunting in Cheddar car park.
