Single Red Kite quite low battling against the wind over Runnington at 11.25 this morning. Then gaining height it drifted South East towards Wellington.

At least seven red kites with numerous gulls and corvids above a field being ploughed beside the A303 just east of Ilminster at about 2pm this afternoon. Unusually, the traffic wasn’t stopped for long so there may have been more kites and I had no opportunity to identify the gull sp.

Single Red Kite wandering over Chipstable, eastwards towards Wiveliscombe, today at 1245pm.  Same bird wandered west yesterday morning, judging by the worn tail, giving a tatty, squared-off appearance.

Red Kite at a little over roof height over my Butleigh garden early afternoon, followed about 10 minutes by an equally low flying Common Buzzard. This afternoon’s count of c25 Swift was the best this year.

10 red kites perched and flying around trees near Evercreech yesterday at least 5 around Creech hill this morning

Hello John! New member here. Red kites are regular around Creech Hill and they come down to hunt after hay is made in the fields around the hill.

Thanks Simon…

Another spot in the area is the river Tone nr Runnington, the section that is next to the old canal and where there is a footbridge over to Runnington. I was watching spotted and the odd couple of pied flycatchers both days last weekend.
I was at the community woodland near the leisure centre earlier today as well, thought I could see some spotted but a combination of new glasses and no binoculars made it difficult to be sure!

Gareth - on Eight Acre Lane. Last year there was a whole family around in August - I didn’t see them earlier though, so maybe nested in a garden out of sight. I haven’t seen this one again either. The best place for them locally otherwise is Langford Heathfield.
