First Sand Martin of the year heading north late morning. Also 2 Red Kites and nice views of a Barn Owl.
Cetti’s Warbler still present this evening, sang from 18:40 - 18:45. Also Barn & Tawny Owls heard and 2 Snipe.
Dipper by the railway bridge this morning at 7:45 before flying high to the south. Also 5 Canada Geese, 2 Mandarin, Peregrine, Water Rail, 3 Nuthatch, 2+ Siskin and female Reed Bunting.
Singing Cetti’s Warbler by the overgrown reedbed along Yeovil Riverside this evening. Also 120+ Golden Plover flew south at dusk, and a female Black Redstart on Cunningham Road, Wyndham Housing Estate this morning.
Barn Owl, 1 Jack Snipe, 1 Common Snipe, 2 Peregrine and 2 Water Rail at the north end of Lyde Road this evening. Also Coot and 17 Mandarin on Ninesprings Lake.
No sign of the Garganey this morning, but Firecrest still near the top pool.
The drake Garganey from last winter reappeared at Ninesprings Lake this evening. Also 20+ Mandarin and a Water Rail.
3 Woodcock, 2 Jack Snipe (potentially up to 3 or 4 have been present this week), 2 Water Rails and a flock of Teal heard passing over this evening.
50+ Med Gulls flew south along Riverside towards SBR yesterday evening and this morning 26 were in the fields between Primrose Lane and the river + circa 40 Golden Plover over.
Firecrest still present at the top pool in Ninesprings Woods but elusive. 1 Coot and 11 Mandarin on the main pond but no sign of any Water Rails or Marsh Tits. Mistle Thrush and a Lesser Redpoll near the Ninesprings Car Park. Lots of Red-legged Partridges and a single Stonechat above Aldon Estate. 5 Mediterranean Gulls (3 ad, 2 2w) and 12 Common Gulls in the field behind Pen Mill Sewage Works and another Med Gull flew south with Herring Gulls at dusk. After sundown near the railway bridge on riverside: 2 Woodcock, 1 Barn Owl, 1 Tawny heard and 3+ Water Rails calling from behind the fence.
Also 2 Teal were on the pool behind Windmill Farm near Lufton plus 3 Lapwing, circa 50 Golden Plover, 2 Snipe, a flock of 14 Canada Geese over and a decent number of Reed Buntings in the field by the Balls Hill Junction.
