Male godeneye on the Axbridge side today plus med gulls (thanks Mike and Julian). Also chiffchaff, peregrine and a feral pigeon that sounds just like a stock dove. Didn’t see any goosander, will try tomorrow

Late news from New Year’s Day afternoon! - Female stonechat on the new fence by the rugby pitch - and a pair of goosander in the middle of the reservoir. About 3.30 a barn owl was over the fields to the south of Cheddar Tower and it flushed 2 snipe. Also much bigger numbers of redwings now evident.

Around 4.30pm on both Fri 1st & Sat 2nd Jan, we think we saw a small group of Goosanders (M & F).  West side of reservoir - mid way down the straight edge. (same place both evenings).  It was sunset time, so the light fading (and we didn’t have bins with us).

Nothing unusual today - saw coot, gcg, mallard, tufties, pochard, bhg, cormorants and pied wags. A wren, redwing, mipit and songthrush at the flooded area top of Holwell Lane and redwings, a greenfinch and a kestrel on the Strawberry Line

A few redwing near the reservoir late morning and a couple of song thrushes. 3 mute swans flew in and there were a couole of flocks of canada geese. Seemed to be fewer pochard and tufted ducks than of late and no sign of the scaup or slav reported on birdguides
