Today’s walk took me from Wellington out to Bathealton & back through Chipley. Marsh Tit & Kingfisher along the river Tone at Rewe Mead Nature Reserve. Large flock of Fieldfares with a few Redwings in a field at Lower Wellisford, counted 83 Fieldfares before they all took off so missed many. At least 8 Reed Buntings on Stone Hill Lane east of Bathealton. 11 Yellowhammers in Mousey Lane north of Langford Heathfield. Plenty of Meadow pipits along the route. Nuthatch, Treecreeper & Grey Wagtail the best of the rest.
A short walk to Langford Budville this afternoon. Again quiet, highlights - 1 Grey Heron & 3 cormorants flying over, 44 Fieldfares in an orchard north of Runnington, 3 Meadow Pipits, 1 Nuthatch, a pair of Bullfinch, 9 Long-tailded Tits, small flock of Goldfinch and a Green Woodpecker disappearing into a hole in a telegraph pole. Nice but distant views of the Nynehead Court firework display on the walk home.
As I’m in the same area I just wanted to voice my appreciation for these updates.
I’m very much a returning novice and at a very low level of knowledge/confidence so whilst I wouldn’t be comfortable doing anything like this myself it is encouraging to know what is happening locally.
