At least 25 little Egret and 2 or 3 GWE this morning, 10 Herons and 58 Mute Swan towards the Pill bridge, 20 Cormorants in the usual tree. Plenty of Stonechats and lots of noise from unseen cranes.
A local river walk this afternoon yielded:
1. Probably Merlin
2. Flock of ~500 mixed Golden Plover and Lapwings on the edge of a recently flooded field. Golden Plover flew off to the East at sunset.
3. Flock of ~100 mixed Redwings and Fieldfare feeding on the hawthorn bushes to the North of the River.
4. 3 active Kingfishers - very visible given the lack of natural vegetation
5. 15 Cormorants up in an old Oak Tree.
6. Numerous Stonechats and a few Pipits
7. Grey Herons and Little Egrets
8. Kestrel
9. Great Spotted Woodpecker that appeared to be looking for grubs in the reeds on the river banks.
A warm afternoon after the recent cold and frosty mornings.
