No sign of the 9 geese in usual area at lunchtime
At Apex Park by and on lake -Tundra Bean Goose and 2 Whitefronts, Stephen Curtis and Carol Rushton
I saw them 1030am, so is possible. No geese seen at Steart island between 1045 & 1300, although there were shelduck, wigeon, curlew, c.25 avocet, redshank, oystercatcher, dunlin, 3+ grey plover, ringed plover (others were looking for Kentish, but I didn’t have telescope with me). 25+ Sanderling nearer Berrow
Although they do also shelter amongst the trees to left of lake (as seen from car park slipway)
I popped in on the way back from the levels today at about 15:15, but couldn’t see any geese despite checking both lakes. I did however see 9 grey geese distantly on the southern end of Stert Island in the gloom and drizzle at 16:15 which may have been the 6 Greylags and their companions, but I wasn’t able to reach a conclusion before they flew south and I lost them.
Bean & both white fronts still with the 6 Greylag
Another tundra Bean is with greylags across the channel at caldicot (although it could be the Dunster bird - another lost locally supports wild origin).
Update: Usual crowd at apex later this morning, including rosybill back by car park.
Canadas back again, but only 6 Greylag with the 3 hangers on.
Geese all still present by the main car park (except the 2 Canadas), whilst rosybill was at other end of main lake (near the playground)
At high tide this morning there was a Common Sandpiper feeding near the Burnham Yacht Club and some Blackcaps in the hedge between there and the Apex Park entrance.
It was the WF goose, which already shows a bit of white around bill, that was having a go at bean this afternoon (although a greylag did respond to the white front). There are 2 extra greylag (8 now), so did they arrive with the bean? 2 Canadas still keeping apart from the grey geese.
If anyone notices them dropping a feather, it’d be worth collecting for testing - to find out where they came from.
Bean Goose, juvenile White Fronted Geese and Rose-billed Pochard late morning
I wonder if that’s the TBG from Dunster (1st Nov - Just a field)? Probably supports the WFs being wild if it is…
Tundra Bean Goose with 2 juvenile Whitefronts and several Greylags, feeding on grassy area above slipway by pond. Other geese quite agressive towards the TBG.
Both WF geese still there, hanging around the slipway by the car park, with 6 greylag & 2 Canada geese. No sign of rings, but are they lost or turned out of someone’s collection?
Also rosybill, moorhens, mallard, herring & BH gulls, along with a young brown rat. Mute swans on other lake.
Photo posted on FB of one of the WF geese taken yesterday (along with the rosybill, although he didn’t know what either of them were).
