Spent a lovely morning along the Huntspill. 3 Avocet with Shelduck, Wigeon, Teal, Little Egret, Curlew and Redshank in the mud just past the Sluice. Skylark soaring and singing in the sunshine and our first two swallows over Sloway Bridge.
And yesterday morning I saw my first goosanders (2 drakes) of the winter on the stretch of the lower Hunstpill between Sloway Bridge and the sluice. Also a merlin out on the saltings. Normally there are plenty of goosanders at the lower end, but this year it seems they’ve mostly stayed up the top end below Gold Corner.
Along the stretch between Huntspill Sluice and the mouth of the Brew I came across my first Wheatear of 2016.
