Red Kite over our Garden in Somerton at 9.15 am this morning.
Got mobbed by 2 gulls and flew off NE - towards Butleigh perhaps?

This morning, by chance, I was driving on the road heading north out of Mark towards the A38 and came across the silageing teams.  This was a major silage cut involving a fair number of fields. The skies were full of Buzzards, Gulls and Corvids. In the gentle breeze a number of the Buzzards were adopting the hover technique followed by a vertical dive. Then they had to hope that they were not mobbed on the ground for the prey. At times the Buzzards stacked vertically with the lower ones regularly look up. Impossible to count them. Quite a sight.

There were also between 4-6 kites who used the classic dive and snatch method of getting the prey off the ground.

Give that the grass was cut and removed while I watched, the birds made best use of this opportunity.

Lovely low views of red kite over the garden in Kingsway, in Mark this morning. I am currently surrounded by frantic silageing, no doubt providing plenty of feeding opportunities.

I saw 1 red kite between Nether Stowey and Holford this afternoon around 14:00. First time I’ve seen one in this area, we usually have lots of buzzards. My first time on your forum
