Took the bins and camera this evening. A bit windy up on the bank, but still 11 very flighty whimbrel around and managed a distant shot or two, plus a couple of oystercatchers. Then spotted something unusual out on the largest of the Viridor scrapes. With very little cover and 3 Labradors in tow, crept as close as I dared without disturbing them and there, among shelducks, mallards, gadwall, swans, heron, little egret and a pair of displaying lapwings, were the bar-headed goose and the 3 Egyptian geese, keeping company with a few Canadas. Seen them all on the Levels before, but never together or on the Hams. A few cropped pics now posted on the Somerset Nature Photography Facebook page.

Yesterday’s short early evening dog walk along the Parrett bank opposite Combwich - sadly no bins or camera - but 14 whimbrel on the saltings, 2 green sandpipers, male wheatear, male swallow, and, at distance out on the Viridor scrapes, a couple of great white egrets, herons, mallards, little egrets and shelducks. Will take the bins and camera today, which is sure to frighten everything away.
