Access to the hides is now just possible with ankle length boots, size 10!
Interesting to watch the Snipe and Starlings both looking for grubs and bugs in the reed mace around the main hide, well that is what it looked like as I’ve not seen the Snipe high up on the reeds before. The other options could be that the Snipe were trying to get any grubs dropped by the Starlings or the Snipe were trying to get the Starlings to move on. Whatever the reason it was fun watching.
All the usual crowd at Greylake this Saturday (14/12) morning.
HIghtlights would be
1. Marsh Harrier flying low over the reeds near the car park
2. Peregrine flying over the hide
3. 2 male Pintails
4. A very cold wind!!

Cut and burn going on to reduce the willow scrub immediately next to the hides, so a bit of disturbance this afternoon. However 60+ Golden Plover among the Lapwing flock, also 2 Grt W Egrets, at least 5 Cattle Egrets among distant cattle, 7 Snipe, 2 Marsh Harriers and a hunting Kestrel that 3 times perched on top of the same bullrush - not seen this before.
