Not much yesterday afternoon except 2 wheatear on rolls of hay behind Mendip Hide.
Post just crossed with Paul’s! Paul has a Common Tern logged - fair enough.
Interesting at Otterhampton Marsh this pm: 3 Ruff, 1 Greenshank (others saw 2) and 4 Green Sand best. A juv tern hawking over the pool nearest the river ended up as Arctic in my book. First showed in unhelpful bright conditions at distance with apparently completely white and translucent secondaries. Later showed in much more even light, still at distance, and still showed apparently completely white secondaries. Jizz also looked great for Arctic to me. Others saw a closer tern earlier that seemed to be Common and we initially assumed this was one and the same - but perhaps there were 2 birds. Was great chatting to other birders on site today.
Quantock hide mid afternoon 02/12/2018, good numbers of lapwing, goldies, dunlin, with teal, shelduck, wigeon , single spoonbill, cattle egret, & little stint found by Nick amongst the starlings & dunlin. A juv` peregrine made kill on a goldie but was harassed by two crows as it devoured it! also on site large flock of chaffinch, male sparrowhawk, kestrel, goldfinch, stonechat ,& a songthrush.
