Glaucous Gull present again at Otterhampton Marsh this morning at 1034 (per Joe Cockram). If it follows the pattern of yesterday it may well pop in again this afternoon, though it doesn’t seem to stay long. Worth searching the fields around Otterhampton itself and along Hinkley Point road too.

Arriving at the turning to Steart Marshes just after 4pm today, I was greeted by a large cloud of gulls which must have just risen from a field on the Otterhampton side. I just missed it at Otterhampton Marsh, but two young birders told me it had gone towards Stolford. Gulls started trickling in there just before 5pm, heading towards the power station, and the Glaucous Gull duly obliged. It didn’t land on the power station though, and about 10 minutes later I picked it up again flying around, at which point it headed off purposefully south-east on its own till I lost it behind some trees. I didn’t see it again in the next hour, so presumably it has roosted elsewhere tonight, possibly Durleigh?

Lots of Pintail and Shelduck offshore, but no sign of any scoter or (predictably) Brent Geese.

An immature Glaucous Gull was seen several times today (though not by me) at WWT Steart Marshes from the Quantock viewpoint. Up to 1000 mixed gulls have been using Otterhampton Marsh intermittently over the last few days while feeding in fields between Otterhampton and the main road to Hinkley Point and it seems to be associating with them, though never for very long. It was also seen in the Stolford/ Hinkley Point area this evening.

Also, a Great White Egret was on Stockland Marsh this afternoon.
