Z9404 featured half way through springwatch episode 10, apparently it returned to knepp after leaving here.
Storks were seen in Hampshire & West Sussex yesterday. There was another one in Surrey at same time as Z9404 was here, with reports from Berkshire & Kent the day before - so they get about, with at least 2 in the country (birds have been seen every day since 7th, when Z9404 appeared in Oxfordshire, & a green ringed individual was at Rainham Marshes, London on 12th, so could well be the same).
Yep, but it wasn’t released on purpose, they were supposedly birds that couldn’t look after themselves in the wild (for breeding programme where the offspring would be introduced). This one seems to be proving that wrong!

The Portland link in my previous post adds it was also seen in Kent & West Sussex before the Isle of Wight.
Info taken from Cley Bird Club online (under Reports / Ringing)
Ringed in the wild in Poland but shortly afterwards taken into care there and then transferred to a “Rewilding” project in Sussex - so effectively comes from a reintroduction scheme. Right tibia: green ring with white code Z9404.
Ringed as nestling 25/6/2016 at Opacz in Vistula Valley just south of Warsaw, Poland (52 06N 21 10E). A female. Movements: Subsequently (date not known) found very weak & under-weight near Opacz, taken into care & transferred to Warsaw Zoo.
Transferred to Knepp Castle Rewilding Project, West Sussex in December 2016. Subsequently seen Cley Marshes and Salthouse Marshes 22/7/2017, Kelling Quag 23/7/2017, Langton Herring (the Fleet, Dorset) 10-11/8/2017 and Charmouth (Dorset) 12/8/2017 (both presumed) and Isle of Portland (Dorset) 25-27/8/2017.
Then confirmed sightings of her on the Isle of Wight 18/9/2017 and at Iffendic (Ille-et-Vilaine), Brittany, France 20/9/2017.
Thanks for the Info. Mike, Poland it is, I can’t count , there were 5 digits in all on the colour ring not 4.
Seems it’s been seen in UK before:
