The Chiloe Wigeon was again at Catcott today not seen for several days. More interesting was a flock of 10 Meadow Pipits feeding for a while on the ground immediately in front of the hide, i thought it’s a bit rarly to see them but I note that Martin Cade at Portland B.O. mentioned on the 7th. of this month incoming M’pits off the sea at the Bill, with a thought that they may have moved north to avoid cold weather in France.
The Chiloe Wigeon was again on the reserve at Catcott, first noted just after mid day. A Juv. Merlin, male Sparrow Hawk, male Marsh Harrier and Buzzard also present as were Wigeon, Shoveller, Teal, Pintail and Mallard in good numbers. At one stage there were 6 Great White Egrets together here.
A drake CHILOE Wigeon on Catcott Lows this afternoon ( Southern Wigeon). Genuine or Escape? anyway a fine looking bird! it was close to the hide with Eurasian Wigeon, not the first I’ve seen here, there was a returning one here for a couple of Winters a few years ago
